We already knew that Miley Cyrus was taking an adventurous approach to her next album — hitting the studio with Pharrell and integrating retro-soul influences into her new tunes — but we were surprised to see that she that was in the studio with a new collaborator: Odd Future rapper Tyler The Creator. Pharrell tweeted a picture of the three hanging in “the lab” last night, prompting a flurry of speculation. Sure, Cyrus is an innovator/groundbreaker/trendsetter/risktaker, but more than that, it puts a twist on their Twitter feud, which started this past August when the two artists traded jabs over Cyrus’ haircut.
As fans recall, the beef began when Tyler tweeted, in his usual title-cased style, about Cyrus’ new ‘do, prompting Cyrus to send out a sharp-tongued reply:
@fucktyler my “barber” couldn’t even come close to the fuck job that is your face. # your right you should shut up. PS your musics dope
— Miley Ray Cyrus (@MileyCyrus) August 14, 2012
Admittedly, given the “your musics dope” appended to the tweet, we should have seen a collaboration coming.
No word yet on what they produced in the studio — although we suspect any collaborative effort would be likelier to appear on Tyler’s album than Cyrus’ — but fingers crossed it’s hard-hitting. A cover of Lady Gaga‘s “Hair,” perhaps?
