At his Saturday night show in Boston, Justin Bieber performed a cover of Justin Timberlake‘s seminal cuckolding anthem “Cry Me A River.” This is significant not only for fans of buttery falsetto vocals, but also for the legions of teens affected by the news that Bieber recently split with girlfriend Selena GomezMost are experiencomg some uneasy, fluttery feelings of ambivalent confusion, in equal parts delighted because Bieber is now single, but also devastated because this means, unequivocally, that love is dead. If the supernaturally wealthy and attractive can’t make it work, what hope do any of us have?

We’ll leave the speculation to the fans as to what the cover actually means (is it an apology? An accusation? Simply one Justin paying tribute to his predecessor? Nobody knows), but one thing is clear: The damage is done, so we guess we’ll be leaving. Watch the video up top.
