Some of the most recent songs we’ve heard from J. Cole sampled liberally from the modern pop catalog, but the first single from his forthcoming album Born Sinner (out January 28) is a much grittier affair. “Miss America” is Cole at his boastful best, combining hard aggression with restless frustration as he barks, “Fuck the man, Uncle Sam / I won’t sell your crack / I won’t fight your wars / I won’t wear your hat.” He also promises “Cole World is just the tip of the iceberg,” and even though he topped the charts with that debut way back in September 2011, Cole is up for New Artist Of The Year at the 2012 American Music Awards on Sunday (November 18). Hear “Miss America” after the jump.
