Troubling news for those in the Latin music world — a plane containing singer Jenni Rivera and six other people has reportedly gone missing in Mexico.

Reports say that the Mexican-American singer’s plane took off at 3:15 AM from Monterrey, Mexico, and dropped out of contact 10 minutes later. A search for the aircraft is still underway.

Five passengers and two pilots were on board.

For those unfamiliar with the artist, Jenni Rivera rose to popularity in the Latin music market in the early 90’s and has sold over 20 million albums since, with several Latin Grammy nominations under her belt along with a couple reality series. Born in California, she planned to record a crossover album to break out in the U.S. and had just signed a deal to star in her own ABC sitcom Jenni. She is 43.

We’ll update this story when we get more news about the alleged crash.
