Best Of 2012: Tegan & Sara’s Tegan Quin Reveals Her Favorite Albums Of The Year

When we caught up with Tegan Quin of Canadian alt-pop duo Tegan & Sara last month to premiere their video for the shimmering pop gem “Closer,” we also took a minute to ask Tegan about her favorite albums of the year — since, after all, the acclaimed band is taking a shift back in the pop direction with their upcoming album Heartthrob.

Unsurprisingly, Tegan has been keeping the pop on heavy rotation — but while it wasn’t tough for her to think of music she loved this year, it was a challenge to get her to pick just one.

“I should have prepared for this!” she laughed. “I’ve been dancing around a lot with a lot of different records, but I think over the last couple months the records that have sort of been haunting me a little bit have been — there’s the new Killers record [Battle Born]. There’s a couple tracks on that record that I just absolutely love. Their new single is going to be ‘Here With Me,’ and that song is just… I mean, I’m biased, because I just saw it for a month straight in an arena full of fans, but it’s so good.”

But alas, even if Tegan loved Battle Born, her affections were divided: “Also, I really love the Dragonette record, Body Parts. It’s so good, oh my God. And the new Stars album!”

And she didn’t stop there — there was one other favorite on her list. “Diamond Rings, too!” she said. “His new record [Special Affections] came out a month ago and I was already into it, but then I saw him on Letterman and it just made me say, like, “Okay. I’m in.”

We can hardly blame her for showing some love to her fellow Canucks — since Dragonette, Stars and Diamond Rings are all from up north. After all, Canadians do it better.
