Well, Rihanna is on the new cover of Rolling Stone looking very lovely and angular in a Terry Richardson photo shoot, but hey! Even though Rihanna’s last album was pretty great and she’s done a lot of cool things worth talking about, guess what they talked about in the interview? Yep, Chris BrownEven the headline says “Crazy In Love”! Big sigh. Oh well. So much for #UNALOPOGETIC.

So what’s the latest Chrianna drama? “I decided it was more important for me to be happy,” she tells the magazine. “I wasn’t going to let anybody’s opinion get in the way of that. Even if it’s a mistake, it’s my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I’d rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it.” (For the record: Most people agree that it is her mistake.)

But don’t get it twisted! Rihanna acknowledges the dysfunction: “When you add up the pieces from the outside, it’s not the cutest puzzle in the world,” she says. “Not the cutest puzzle in the world” might be unduly generous but yeah, okay. “We don’t have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about shit. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don’t want to lose that.”

And what happens if he returns to violence, as far as Rihanna’s concerned? “He doesn’t have the luxury of fucking up again,” she explains. “That’s just not an option. I can’t say that nothing else will ever go wrong. But I’m pretty solid in the knowing that he’s disgusted by that. And I wouldn’t have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility.”

For those of us who find Chris Brown execrable, the timing of this interview, with Rihanna defending her beau and arguing that he’s changed, couldn’t come at a better time following Monday’s news that Brown punched Frank Ocean over a perceived act of social disrespect. That definitely bodes well, right?
