Kendrick Lamar & Drake Prove Love Is A Battlefield In “Poetic Justice” Video: Watch

Kendrick Lamar and Drake team up in the video for the Janet Jackson-sampling “Poetic Justice,” and the clip furthers the cinematic feel and emotional heft of Lamar’s album good kid, m.A.A.d city. K-Dot made a few pleas for Janet herself to make an appearance, and though he was rebuffed, even without her presence the video delivers.

It’s all smiles at first, but soon Kendrick’s innocent flirtation leads to an ugly confrontation. For a song that includes the lyric “Read slow and you’ll find gold mines in these lines,” it only makes sense, then, that K-Dot made sure the key action occurs off-screen.

It’s an unexpected interpretation of a track that at first glance could just be a superficial love jam.
