Hey, remember Eve? She’s still back! And when she’s not directing shade at Nicki Minaj and getting turned down for collaborations by Azealia Banks, she’s proving that she still knows her way around a good crossover pop tune — which is exactly what she’s showing off in her new single with Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta, “Make It Out This Town.”

Sure, it sounds like a Maroon 5 album cut, all buoyant guitars and sunny pop-rock production, but it’s also the most radio-friendly thing Eve has released since the pulsating should’ve-been-a-hit “Tambourine.” Even if her lyrics are occasionally wince-inducing in their ham-fisted sentimentality (“The naysayers, they gon’ try to embarrass ya / But I’ve learned that the struggle builds character”) and it sounds tailor-made for a bat mitzvah dancefloor, it’s an undeniably effective little pop nugget. and a good “message” song, if that’s a thing.

Eve’s back, and that’s a very welcome thing. Listen below.
