You Be The Judge: Jadagrace, “Run Dat Back”

We come across new artists each and every day, but are all acts worth making a fuss over? With You Be The Judge, we’re leaving it up to YOU, our readers. Should we keep tabs on these rising artists, leave their tunes behind — or at least let them stew a bit longer before we give them another chance?

Meet Jadagrace, the 13-year-old protege of Redfoo. Yes, he of LMFAO fame.

The pint-sized triple threat (she danced at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy and starred in 2009’s Terminator: Salvation!) is currently prepared her Epic Records debut which, apart from Redfoo, is being produced by some pretty impressive industry vets, including Tricky Stewart and Smokey Robinson.

Now, the young starlet makes her official debut this week with “Run Dat Back,” along with an accompanying video, which is—well, um. We don’t know.

“Run Dat Back” is a catchy burst of dance-pop fun for sure, but all this singing about DJs, dancing on the floor and “going cray” from a 13-year-old in a leather skirt and a tight belly-bearing top? Yikes. Is that before or after you finish your homework, young lady?

Let’s try and place this one: Brit Brit drew major controversy in 1998 for her now iconic pigtail-and-schoolgirl uniform debut at age 16 with “…Baby One More Time,” while Willow Smith swept the nation and slayed all haters in 2010 with her fiercely fresh “Whip My Hair” at age 10. This? This sits somewhere uncomfortably in the middle: Not entirely provocative, yet way more suggestive than, say, Rebecca Black‘s “Friday.” (Also, the presence of anything LMFAO-related is in no way helpful.)

Do you like what you see and hear? Too Toddlers & Tiaras, or a genuinely exciting debut from a promising new act? Help us decide.
