Beyonce’s “Bow Down” & “I Been On”: Hear The New Songs

Beyonce Bow Down

Listen: We don’t know what this is. But it’s new Beyonce, and that’s probably just about all you need to know.

The songbird unceremoniously posted a new song (or set of songs) titled “Bow Down/I Been On” on SoundCloud today, and it’s two things: The first, “Bow Down,” is a noisy, sputtering R&B track (it evokes “Diva,” a bit) and sees King Bey loudly proclaiming her supremacy over your favorites. “I took some time to live my life / But don’t think I’m just his little wife,” she announces before launching into the most ingeniously simple hook in a minute — “Bow down, bitches,” repeated ad infinitum. (We’re hearing that it was produced by Hit-Boy, which sounds about right.)

The second thing is a rap track that’s all distorted, chopped ‘n’ screwed vocals; reportedly, it was produced by Timbaland, Polow da Don and Planet IV.

We’re fairly confident that “Bow Down” is more buzz track than official single, given the lack of formal build-up (and the fact that it doesn’t really sound like single, does it?), but one thing is eminently clear: She’s back.

Bow down, bitches.

New Beyonce. New Beyonce. New Beyonce. New Beyonce. Sound off in the comments, or by hitting us up on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. duh, guys.

“The second thing is a rap track that’s all distorted vocals and since we can’t hear any actual Bey on it, we’re choosing to basically ignore it. (Sorry.)”

The distorted vocals are hers. She’s paying homage to Houston rap (She’s a Texas girl after all). It’s called “chopped & screwed” type of rap. Made popular by Dj Screw, UGK & others.

Why would you ignore it? its her vocals. there’s a second version of the track where you hear its her voice. the version she released is just chopped & screwed, a stable of Houston area music and certainly not new for us. Yall need to focus on research before releasing crap articles like this.

Beyonce has no real talent. She’s just a stripper.

    • you’re just an idiot.

    • lol That’s why you mad?

    • mhc

I agree with you Phil. People are so fooled by the looks and bad music these days they don’t know what real talent is. I hope this song “Bow Down” brings people to reality of what Beyonce really is about. Still can’t believe they allowed this stripper to sing at the Inauguration, Michelle Obama is fooled too by her. Can’t wait for this false admiration to end. She sucks!!!

  4. xSushi

King Bey with a capital B! Yesssss!!

  5. Love the first half, but the screwed and chopped stuff sounds a little forced. But yeah — it’s her. I liken this to Lady Gaga’s “Cake”. Just a fun song to get people’s attention.

  6. This sounds like crap. I get Bey is talented, but idk, i feel shes been declining as an artist.

  7. Latina

Not her style at all. Rhianna is talks about treating women like hoes. Beyonce is waaaaay too talented to be trying this hard. She sent someone from her crew to smack a trick???? What kind of lyrics are those? A few years back an interviewer asked her if she ever wanted to punch someone in the face and she said “No, that’s very violent.” What happened to the good, respectful, classy, beautiful B? Just when she proved gangstas like good wholesome women she pulls this. SMH

  8. Reese

Really???? It is GARBAGE! Back in January she was “empowering women” with her all girl band and dancers!!! Get yo life girl!

  9. Jile

I’d be surprised if a lot of the songs Bey writes, are actually started by her. She seems like those writers that changes a few lines, or writes a verse to a song already crafted on the outside. Then you get songs like this and lyrics to Run The World, and they’re the sort that you kinda think could convince you Bey started herself, cause they’re terrible. I’d like to see her produce some stuff by herself, just to see how good she might be, cause I just find she has some of the best producers to do a lot for her.

    • Mm

Beyonce would do just fine producing for herself. She knows her stuff. She’s been making music in the studio since she was 16. And she’s 31.

  10. JustinMar

I havent accomplished a fraction or decimal of what this womans accomplished but bow down? Not to this mess dear and not to you.
From trying to uplift woman with Run the World, to telling bitches to bow down. From trying to portray a humble, thankful woman in the beautifully made documentary, to this ratchet boasting. I know people are multi dimensional and contradictory but DAMN! Yeah its trap music and a homage to the Houston scene, but…Ugh, what a tumultuos relatonship I have with this woman!!! You have nothing to prove Beyonce so please go back to making actual music PLEASE!!!

    • Mm

But it’s all in good fun. She’s not being serious. She’s playing a part. The rap section at the end is not at all how she normally talks. I wouldn’t take this too seriously.

  11. Linda

Wait until you actually hear Beyonce sing these “words,” or NOT
    sing these “words.”

  12. faith

    bow down BITCHES……

  13. seppy33

U people dont know bey, so stop acting like u know what she was thinking, look who shes married too, ever wonder y she chose jay z, bc this is wht shes saying behind close doors lmao and than actually said it out loud in a song, shes possessed and fooling many. I use to be a fan and than i woke up, i mean how good could she be married to jay z. Get real, this is her, believe it. She has definetly fell completly off, if u want a hit call rhianna, u cant put her in a box, but beyonce u can, she cant do what rhi rhi does. I mean reinvents herself and does something way different all the time. Bey. Has do .wht works And this trashsy song isnt working back to the drawing board to steal , and take credit from somebody eles, bey u need to bow down and say a prayer for ur failing carreer, u been on ur now off

  14. LaLaLoopsey

I like most of Beyonce’s music. But I do think she is declining. Yes, she is a queen but i think people pay more attention to younger, more care free, and relatable artists like Lady Gaga, Rhianna, Rita Ora, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and so on. I don’t really have a problem with the song its not that bad. I mean she is just trying to stay relevant so let her do what she does. Idk if its just me but no matter how much she tries to change her sound, it all sounds similar. But honestly, i think her saying “bow down b***es” is kind of immature since she is now a mother and has already proven herself..Kind of disappointed.

  15. LaLaLoopsey

And plus, how do you guys know if she even wrote the songs or was just “Inspired” by something?

  16. biotech
