Vanessa Hudgens’ “$$$ex”: Hear The Grimy Electro Track

So it’s not that Vanessa Hudgens is known for her music, necessarily (she did release two pretty decent albums and one mega-single, the iconic “Sneakernight”), but she’s in pretty fine form on her new song “$$$ex” (title of the year), a slimy, grimy electropop track with a lot of distorted, shouty vox that don’t really sound like V.Hudge at all. Not the teen-pop V.Hudge of yesteryear, at least.

Featuring YLA and produced by creators of uniformly excellent pop music Rock Mafia, the track’s video is comprised entirely of footage from Hudgens’ new film Spring Breakers, which works nicely because Spring Breakers itself is mostly just a two-hour music video, so seeing it condensed down to two-and-a-half minutes of footage works pretty well.

It also complains the soon-to-be-iconic line “”Fifty in his pocket / A condom in his wallet / He’s not gonna sleep tonight” and the repeated hook, “You think you’re so fucking clever,” so it’s, well, grown-up. Just like Hudgens. We’re convinced.

Watch up top.
