Selena Gomez Unveils “Come & Get It” Promo Art, Announces Debut Performance At MTV Movie Awards

Highly stylized dance-pop songbird Selena Gomez has been teasing her comeback for months, and now there’s an accompanying visual, at the very least: The chanteuse unveiled the first promo photo for her upcoming single “Come & Get It” via her official Facebook today, and it’s an appealingly weird, high-concept one! She’s wearing a jeweled headpiece and screaming, maybe? Or shouting? Or celebrating, like making a “Woohoo!” noise? Or scrunching up her face in frustration? It’s not entirely clear.

Here are some reasons why Selena Gomez could be making that face:

1. She’s upset because it’s been literally years since Selena Gomez released new music. 2. James Franco‘s breath. 3. Her jeweled headpiece is too tight. 4. She wants you to come and get it. 5. She’s really excited about her new single dropping.

At any rate, this looks like a nice evolution from the noirish flapper style of the When the Sun Goes Down era, but it’s not so dramatic of an aesthetic departure that she’ll betray her primary fan base of people who want to see her wearing elaborate costumes from various eras like a singing, dancing American Girl doll, so the point is: We’re on board.

Also, and of equal or perhaps greater significance, a press release announced that Gomez will be performing the new single for the first time at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, April 14 at 9:00 p.m. The words “hotly anticipated” spring to mind.

“Come & Get It” is out April 8.
