Petition Demands Reebok Drop Rick Ross From Endorsement Deal

A new petition calls for Reebok to drop Rick Ross from his endorsement deal, in light of his controversial lyrics in MMG signee Rocko‘s “U.O.N.E.O.” “By holding him up as something to aspire to, Reebok is sending the message that raping a woman is cool–and that’s a dangerous message to send the boys and young men that Reebok markets to,” the petition says.

Ross had signed his endorsement deal with Reebok Classics in March 2012. Women’s rights organization Ultra Violet launched the petition Thursday, and received more than 25,000 signatures in just two hours. By Friday morning, the petition received 51,00 signatures. “I die over these Reeboks, you ain’t even know it / Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it / I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it,” Rozay raps in “U.O.N.E.O” — revisit the track after the jump.

Ultra Violet’s petition launched the same day as Rick Ross responded to earlier protests and petitions. “It was a misunderstanding with a lyric, a misinterpretation where the term rape wasn’t used. I would never use the term rape in my records,” he said to radio station Q93. Neither Reebok nor Rozay’s camp have commented on the petitions.
