Iconic thespian/extremely natural speaker of words/living legend (you can look but don’t touch) Britney Spears is making fine use of her post-X Factor, pre-Las Vegas interregnum: Namely, the pop superstar has filmed a cameo in a promotional spot for the Los Angeles Dodgers, a baseball team!
Who knew that Britney was such a sports enthusiast? Truly a Renaissance woman.
The totally-not-weird-at-all clip sees Spears catching a ball (motor control! She’s certainly getting nimbler), turning awkwardly to the camera and saying, “Scream and shout, Dodgers fans!” and then throwing the ball to someone off set before flashing a smile for the camera. It’s only about three seconds, which is just long enough to be intensely disconcerting and awkward.
Look: Britney Spears needs to make money, too, and maybe she genuinely is a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and maybe she owed someone a favor, and also she got a little promo in for “Scream & Shout,” and all of that is good! Fine. Fine, Britney. But this is unbecoming of a superstar of her stature. We expect better.
At least, if nothing else, it’s given us this extraordinary gift.
