Emeli Sande Performs “Next To Me” Live For Capitol’s ‘1 Mic 1 Take’ Series: Watch
We knew Emeli Sande was a voice that needed to be heard by millions upon our very first listen of “Heaven” — hence us featuring the singer in our Popping Up series way back in 2011. And with her soulful single “Next To Me” blowing up in the States, finally giving the British artist that all-important breakthrough on these shores, what better way for Emeli’s crystal clear pipes to be showcased than to have her belt out the tune for her label Capitol’s 1 Mic 1 Take. (Watch above.)
That title pretty much says it all: it’s Sande pouring out her heart in front of a lone microphone (sans Kendrick Lamar, who appears on the recorded version of the US release), accompanied only by a piano for the stripped-down performance.
Those who’ve picked up Sande’s debut LP Our Version Of Events but not quite had their fill of the BRIT Award-winning singer can get another fix later this month, when her eight-song iTunes Session is made available for download on April 23. (Pre-order here.)
