Tyler, The Creator Performs “Rusty” & Takes A Selfie With David Letterman: Watch

Tyler, the Creator made his Late Show debut Thursday (April 4), and it might be our favorite television performance so far this year. The young provacateur did Wolf cut “Rusty” with his Odd Future cohorts Earl Sweatshirt and Domo Genesis. And it’s great for several reasons. First, watching David Letterman introduce that whole thing is surreal. And then there’s Tyler and Earl’s hilariously synchronized dance moves — dudes look like Solange and Dev Hynes on ‘ludes. And then there’s the walk-off ending, only to have the three guys return so Tyler can take a photo with the host.

Oh, and the song! The performance was more subdued and straightforward than Tyler’s other late night gigs, allowing him to show off some serious lyrical prowess. Check it out up top, and then see Tyler’s tweets about feeling like a fish out of water during the whole thing (“I NEVER BEEN AROUND THAT MANY OLD WHITE PEOPLE IN MY LIFE,” which — true story — is the header on CBS’s official advertising kit).
