Lana Del Rey’s “Young & Beautiful”: Preview Her ‘Great Gatsby’ Track

Lana Del Rey has released a 30-second snippet of “Young & Beautiful,” as featured on the forthcoming Great Gatsby soundtrack. In the film’s extended trailer, the former Born to Die track soundtracks footage of the blossoming love between Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan). But in Del Ray’s new preview, the song reveals itself to fraught with nostalgia — as if in her mind, she’s already lost her newfound love.

“Hot summer nights, mid-July, when you and I would forever lie / the crazy days, the city lights, the way you play with me like a child,” she sings, before the song swells and she asks the titular question: “Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and beautiful?” Hear the preview after the jump.

Sounds like she drank a couple bottles of wine and cut herself a few times. Pretty typical for Lana. (I’ll need the full song to truly judge.)

And you are an idiot! (although I will have to see you to truly judge).

When you and I were forever wild*

If anything she’s reminiscing about how much she loves and cherishes this person. Not slicing up her wrist like your small mind assumes.
