Bad news for fans of The Wanted, who might still be smarting after the verbal beating Tom Parker took from One Direction‘s Louis Tomlinson last week: The group is going to be down one man while Nathan Sykes undergoes surgery on his throat and then recovers for the following month. British tabloids report (via MTV News) that Sykes won’t be able to talk for a month (!) and will have to sit out on upcoming sessions as the boys record their next album, and that it’s not yet clear whether or not he’ll be able to join in on their world tour later this year.

The band wrote on Facebook: “Our lil Nath has to go in for an op on his throat on his birthday to make him better so join us in wishing him well. We love ya! #GetWellNath.” (Nobody warned them that hashtags don’t work on Facebook.)

An official statement from the band’s rep described the surgery as an “unforeseen hiatus” but maintained that everything will be going according to plan as Sykes recovers: “

The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible,” it read. “The remaining four members of The Wanted will continue fulfilling the bands promotional commitments across the world.”

Stay strong, Nath. And #GetWell.
