Whatcha Say: Daft Punk, Azealia Banks & Selena Gomez’s MTV Performance Got Our Readers Talking

As usual, it was a busy week in pop — and an even busier week for our readers: A track from Daft Punk‘s highly anticipated new album leaked, as did news that legend Kylie Minogue is almost done with her twelfth album.

Beyonce’s world tour kicked off, revealing the setlist we’ve all been dying to see, and the MTV Movie Awards happened, with performances by the Pitch Perfect cast, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Selena Gomez — which our readers felt very strongly about. Check out the week’s best comments below!

:: When we asked what kind of statement Beyoncé was making with her sparkly new tour outfit in this week’s Caption This, Yvonne Walters supplied the best answer: “BOOBIE-LICIOUS.”

:: Justin was feeling the Daft Punk leak on Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” Leaks, Probably For Real This Time: Hear The Track: “Hearing this is like traveling back to the late 70′s and hearing Chic live. Oh my god, I love it.”

:: David was less pleased:  “It seems thrown together. A mish-mash of the teaser, and then some oddly flat vocals thrown in, and then some different elements thrown in to make it seem genuine. If it is the real deal, then it must have been stolen halfway through production; it sounds, well, unfinished.”

:: And when the song finally hit iTunes, Shamrock had just one thing to say on Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”: Listen To The Actual, Official Song (Well, The Radio Edit, At Least): “Pure Awesomeness.”

:: Jack has an intriguing take on Azealia’s new video on Azealia Banks’ “Yung Rapunxel” Video: Watch The Dark, Surreal Clip: “Early in her career with the videos for ’212′ and ’1991′ she gave off this classy fun-girl vibe, she subsequently ruined it with the video for ‘Atlantis’ and her constant beefing. Due to her irritating public antics she sort of morphed into this villan character and this video entirely aestheticizes it.”

Felipe agreed, adding: “Maybe the voice in the her head which repeats ‘I wanna be free’ is what the writer of this article doesn’t get as the message that she is really trying to portray. She’s trying to free herself from all the haters which from the the beginning have been the reason she had lashed out.”

:: Not too many readers were fans of Selena Gomez’s performance at the MTV Movie Awards on 2013 MTV Movie Awards: Selena Gomez Performs “Come & Get It”. Jay questions: “Why is it at some point, in a female pop star’s career do they do something adopt the Hindi culture into their music?” He continues, “It’s boring at this point…the performance and the song were boring.”

:: HELLO had only one complaint: “She needs to fire her hair stylist.”

:: Some were less than pleased with Beyonce’s tour setlist on Beyonce’s Mrs. Carter Show World Tour Opens In Serbia (With No New Material): See The Setlist: “I would be 100 percent pissed if I had bought tickets months in advance thinking by now there would be new songs or the new album and all I got was oldies,” says mick. “Thank God I didn’t buy tickets.”

:: But veronikastealz wasn’t put off: “If this is the setlist for the tour, I am SOLD! The Queen has Spoken!”

:: Drew was not a huge fan of Lana Del Rey’s new track from Gatsby: “Sounds like she drank a couple bottles of wine and cut herself a few times. Pretty typical for Lana.” But he noted, “I’ll need the full song to truly judge.”

:: Michael disagreed strongly: “If anything she’s reminiscing about how much she loves and cherishes this person. Not slicing up her wrist like your small mind assumes.”

:: And when Pink hit her fourth number one single, Thomas was (mostly) proud on Pink’s “Just Give Me A Reason” Becomes Her Fourth Hot 100 #1 (& The Second For Nate Ruess): “Weirdly, this is about the only P!nk single I don’t care for…I love ‘real’ songs like this and am glad to see her success and the success of a song that isn’t generic – but it’s a little boring to me. Still, I would have NEVER thought this song would have done this well, so congrats to her!!! Should have been ‘Try’ though.”
