The Wanted’s “Walks Like Rihanna”: Hear A Snippet Of The New Single

The Wanted‘s new single is called “Walks Like Rihanna.” First, take a minute to let that marinate. Really, really let it sink in. Got it? Cool.

Now, some details: The UK’s favorite/second-favorite (depends on who you ask) boy band recorded the song with Dr. Luke, which is probably a good sign, since he’s made a few good pop songs in his day; they’re due to premiere the video on May 7, and the single gets an official release June 23 in the UK, but it will probably be out sooner than that here. (The song is still called “Walks Like Rihanna,” remember.) Vocalist Tom Parker said that his bandmates were “excited about this single” and that they had “stripped it back to pure pop.” (As opposed to their usual avant-garde sound.)

Which is great. We love pure pop. But the song is still called “Walks Like Rihanna.” This feels problematic.

There’s a 30-second snippet of the song making the rounds now, and it sounds like Jessie J‘s “Domino” if Jessie J’s “Domino” were sung by five dudes and about a girl who has no talent but the bearing of a Bajan superstar. (That is, it sounds like a big hit but in an offensively insipid way, and we love it and hate it in equal measures.)
