Jay-Z’s “100$ Bill”: Stream The Full ‘Great Gatsby’ Track
We heard a 90-second preview of Jay-Z‘s “100$ Bill” a few weeks ago, but now that the full soundtrack to The Great Gatsby is streaming, we can dig into Jay’s full contribution. Solo tracks from Hov have been rare these past few years; the handful he has released in that time frame (“Open Letter,” “Glory”) have felt rushed or inconsequential. But “100$ Bill,” this is Jay-Z in Jay Gatsby mode, the rhymes furthering his Watch the Throne interplay of boastful extravagance and political contempt.
A looping guitar pluck and ethereal chants underpin nimble percussion, and while we could do without all the film soundbites muddling the track, it’s grandiose and appealingly jittery, certainly an affair worthy of the soundtrack’s overseer. Hear the track below.
