‘American Idol’: The Top 4 Perform Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love” Before Amber Says Goodbye

What all the four remaining ladies wanted was a spot in the coveted top three, and after Thursday’s results, that upper tier of women vying for the title of American Idol was finally set. Let me warn you, there were lots of Ford Focus and The Great Gatsby promotions shoved down your throat, so hopefully you were prepared to gag while watching?

However, while the last contestants standing are getting along like gangbusters, judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were famously going at each other during their feedback sessions. Yesterday the Pink Friday singer took to Twitter to continue her Mimi bashing. All in good fun? Or a sign that Jennifer Lopez is returning as a judge next season? I certainly hope not. I would seriously miss the ramblings of my Glittery Unicorn Honey Angel.

In other news, Idol results start now!

Mariah is wearing her favorite color, nude, and Nicki is rocking some blinged-out rainbow sneakers and jeans. They both look great. The show opens with a performance of Beyonce‘s “Crazy In Love” from the top four ladies, the Emeli Sande version of which is on The Great Gatsby soundtrack. It’s fun and the ladies all look super cute, but it’s a tad seizure-inducing. I want more of those back-up dancers doing the chicken dance. Then, commercial!

We return from the quick break to, big surprise, product placement from Ford Fiesta. Yawn.

Ryan Seacrest has the girls sitting on the stage to hear Jimmy Iovine‘s play-by-play of last night’s performances. Jimmy says Angie Miller didn’t stand out enough for him to be the top contender, but doesn’t think she’s going home. Amber Holcomb sounded “karaoke” during her rendition of “Just Give Me A Reason.” As for her version of “My Funny Valentine,” he calls it “magnificent.” Jimmy agrees with me that Candice Glover did a great job with both songs. He feels that Kree Harrison “did well,” but isn’t “living up to her potential.”

On a side note, Kree is looking fantastic with her dark hair and ruby red lipstick. Also, I hear from an insider that Keith Urban is the only judge who routinely goes into the audience during commercial break to chat with fans. Like I need more reasons to love this man.

But back to tonight’s show. Season 7 winner, David Cook, who is performing tonight. He warns the contestants that those who make it to the Top 3 homecoming tour will cry. I’m pleased to see he’s slicking his hair back and is no longer rocking the Rod Stewart do. Afterwards, he gives former mentor, Mariah, a shoutout.

Now, it’s Will.i.am‘s turn to perform. He’s also on the soundtrack for The Great Gatsby with a song entitled, “Bang Bang.” 20th Century Fox would really like you to see this movie. The lyrics are mostly “bang.” Seriously, if you remember that, you basically have it memorized. In short, it would have been the perfect song for Lazaro Arbos to sing.

We get an update montage on what former Season 4 contestant, Constantin Maroulis, is up to. He’s been doing lots of Broadway, and I’m kicking myself for not going to see him and Deborah Cox in Jekyll & Hyde at the Pantages. Anywho, he’s not performing this evening, but American Idol would like you to know he’s doing well.

Now, it’s time for mentor, Harry Connick Jr. to hit the stage. He will not be doing any complicated runs, guys. It’s just not his thing. OMG, Ryan reads my mind and teases Harry about the lack of runs afterwards. Ha! Brain twinsies!

Back to Ryan and the ladies. Now, it’s time for them to get tortured for the final minutes of the show until they get to hear the results at the last possible moment. Nicki gives them all an encouraging talk, telling them that no matter what, they did a great job and she is confident they will have successful careers no matter what. Awww, she’s right. I do like these gals.

Angie is the first to find out she’s safe. Candice finds out next she will be remaining. Meanwhile, if these girls didn’t know how to work it in sky-high heels, they certainly do now. Then, we cut to commercial break before finding out Amber and Kree’s fate. When we return, we find out that Kree managed to nab the third spot. Amber and her lovely legs for day and baby Whitney Houston voice are no longer in the competition. I’m going to cry during her montage. I really am sad to see her go. How about you guys?

Next week, it’s all about the Top three! We’ll get to see the contestants on their victorious homecoming tours. See you all then!
