“Bittersweet” can’t even begin to describe how we feel about this bit of news. Chris Brown announced earlier today (May 14) that his next single, “They Don’t Know,” features unreleased vocals from the late, great Aaliyah. Think happy thoughts: new Aaliyah vox!

It’s always slightly questionable when a dead person’s unfinished art is arbitrarily shepherded through to a commercial release via time-traveling collaboration, but, ugh, this sucks. Is it Brown’s attempt to one-up Drake, who was orchestrating a posthumous Aaliyah album? We weren’t even keen on Drizzy’s “collaboration” with Aaliyah, “Enough Said,” and we like Drake! This is too much cognitive dissonance for us to handle on a Tuesday afternoon, guys.

“They Don’t Know” will appear on X, out July 16, and Brown reportedly filmed the accompanying music video in L.A. over the weekend. Just pray there’s no Aaliyah hologram.
