You Be The Judge: Sevyn Streeter, “It Won’t Stop”

We come across new artists each and every day, but are all acts worth making a fuss over? With You Be The Judge, we’re leaving it up to YOU, our readers. Should we keep tabs on these rising artists, leave their tunes behind — or at least let them stew a bit longer before we give them another chance?

Sevyn Streeter — the artist formerly known as Se7en — has returned with a brand new beat. Originally known as a member of the short-lived R&B girl group TG4, followed by the equally short-lived R&B girl group RichGirl (of “He Ain’t With Me Now (Tho)” legend), the singer-songwriter is now setting off on her solo path in 2013.

Having already penned tracks for the likes of Kelly Rowland, Ariana Grande, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys and Fantasia, Sevyn certainly knows her way around a hit. But does her second solo effort, “It Won’t Stop,” sound like one too?

Unlike her clanging debut record “I Like It,” “It Won’t Stop” is a smooth-sailing electro-R&B groove sees the songstress melodically crooning across a lazy guitar strum and a solid R&B beat, not entirely unlike Miguel and Mariah‘s summer anthem, “#Beautiful.” There’s also a heavy dose of Aaliyah in the production — she even mentions “Rock The Boat” at one point.

But now, it’s your turn to decide: Is “It Won’t Stop” a certifiable smash?
