Avril Lavigne Takes The Cover Of ‘Nylon,’ Talks New Music

Avril Lavigne has been on the cover of Nylon three times over the years and, incidentally, taking the cover of their summer music issue, it appears that she hasn’t aged a day. Here’s to never growing up, indeed.

In the cover story, the chanteuse talked about her upcoming album, due out this fall: “I just wanted to write songs and make something that was a little more artistic,” she said. “I wanted to go down that road, I wasn’t trying to write a big radio record.” (She did so, anyway — have you heard “Here’s To Never Growing Up”?) She also said the thing that all artists say when they’re doing press, which is that this record was more vulnerable and authentic: “Lyrically I pushed myself to talk about different subjects I haven’t talked about before. I didn’t want to be so simple. I tried to really express myself and go deeper.”

So sure, it may not be the most revealing interview Avril’s ever given (has anyone ever said “I went shallower on this album”?) but, well, the music speaks for itself, right? Right.
