Beck Reportedly Prepping Two Albums, Returns With “Defriended”: Hear The New Track

Beck is back, and it’s not sheet music this time! The pop enigma has just posted new song “Defriended,” and while we were a little wary going by the title alone, this is no novelty track. Beck continues down the sad weirdo path for this one, his vocals blanketed with a warbling echo under a syncopated percussion loop. The song nicely melds organic sounds like faded horns and acoustic strums with hazy atmospherics and synth squiggles, and it’s somehow groovy and angular at the same time.

Rolling Stone reports Beck is prepping two new albums (one will be acoustic, the other a proper follow-up to 2008’s solid Modern Guilt), but that this song won’t appear on either. No matter! Give it a listen below.
