Ed Sheeran Covers Bob Dylan For ONE Campaign: Watch The Protest Song

Ed Sheeran has covered Bob Dylan‘s seething “Masters Of War,” and to be honest, I was ready to really lay into this. But it’s quite stunning to see the “A Team” crooner dial up the brooding intensity required of Dylan’s 1963 protest against the Cold War arms race. Sheeran turns out a faithful (a.k.a. acoustic-only) cover, and when you hear Ed sing, “I hope that you die / And your death will come soon,” it’s easy to forget this is a British heartthrob who is used to having tween girls shrieking in his face. Very solid job by Ed.

Sheeran did the song for the ONE Campaign’s agit8 initiative, to help bring awareness to extreme poverty. Check it out up top.
