Kanye West’s “Black Skinhead” Featured In ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street’ Trailer: Watch

Kanye West is such a captivating character because of his ability to represent hypocritical viewpoints simultaneously. This was expertly illustrated on “All Falls Down,” when he rapped, “We all self-conscious, I’m just the first to admit it.” The latest example of West’s cultivated contradiction comes from an unlikely source: the trailer for Martin Scorsese‘s The Wolf Of Wall Street, which uses Ye’s new song “Black Skinhead.” Much has been made about Kanye’s decision to forgo any radio singles for Yeezus, but here he has landed on the next best option. It’s intriguing because just a few months ago, Yeezy went on a screed against the omnipresent corporate influence in music, and seemed to implicitly criticize acts like Beyonce and Justin Timberlake, who partner up with companies and release new music via commercials. (Jay-Z is the latest to do that, partnering with Samsung to release Magna Carta Holy Grail.)

So Kanye fights the power by refusing to release any singles, then gives the people the idea of a single by going through a different corporate channel. Nobody in pop culture plays both sides the way Kanye does. Hypocrite, opportunist, shameless self-promoter…whatever he is, he knows exactly what he’s doing.

Anyway, if angry Leo is your favorite Leo, and angry Kanye is your favorite Kanye, then you’ll love the trailer up top.
