Kanye West Under Fire For Parkinson’s Line In “On Sight”

Kanye West‘s Yeezus has its share of provocative lyrics — there’s a whole discussion to be had about his use of sex on this album — but the first “official” controversy seems to come from his Parkinson’s line in “On Sight.” Kanye raps, “Soon as I pull up and park the Benz, we get this bitch shaking like Parkinson’s.” Now the American Parkinson Disease Association has spoken out about the rhyme, saying, “We find these lyrics distasteful and the product of obvious ignorance.”

One quick search of “Parkinson’s” or “Michael J. Fox” on Rap Genius shows this has become a pretty common lyrical trope in hip-hop in recent years, but whatever, we’re OK with this response. Rap lyrics can be distasteful. When they are, it gives the offended camp a chance to briefly step into the spotlight and get people talking about the relevant issue. So rappers, keep offending, and people who get offended, keep calling them on it. The circle of life!

Any guesses as to who will be next to condemn lyrics from Yeezus? We have a few predictions.

*PETA will (again) release a statement regarding all the fur/mink lines.

*The Catholic League will protest Kanye’s lyrics about being a “raplic priest” and receiving oral sex from nuns. Oh, and the whole “God” thing.

*The Asian American Federation will formally condemn the “sweet and sour sauce” couplet.

*The Society of Professional Journalists will decry his promotion of violence against recording equipment.

*The Environmental Defense Fund will upload a video demonstrating the severe environmental cost of our reliance on red cups.

*David Stern‘s final act as NBA Commissioner will be to deny that there’s a special, separate seating section for players’ mistresses.

*The DEA will officially deny any charges of colluding with the CCA.

*White people will decry the reverse racism implied by the title “Black Skinheads.”
