Jay-Z & Timbaland Preview New ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ Beat: Watch

Jay-Z has released another ad for his Samsung-backed album Magna Carta Holy Grail, and this one previews a new beat with Timbaland. The instrumental snippet the duo plays in the studio features a cascade of uber-analog synths, and quite frankly it’s nice to have Timbo back doing his jittery alien beats after he took some time doing more pristine, straightforward stuff on The 20/20 Experience. Hov’s excited about it, too, letting out a “wooo” as the track plays out. Check it out up top.

Samsung will release 1 million free copies of Magna Carta Holy Grail to Galaxy S III, Galaxy S 4, and Note II owners on July 4, and the album will be available to everyone else on July 7. (But we imagine by that time there will be plenty of pirated copies floating around.)

Interestingly, those million copies won’t count towards Billboard‘s chart tallies, which makes sense since they weren’t really sold. Although, it’s barely any different from when Lady Gaga all but gave away Born This Way by charging $0.99 on Amazon for two days back in 2011, and those counted.
