TLC Replaced Left Eye With A Japanese Pop Star On New Version Of “Waterfalls”: Listen

As a treat for their Japanese fans, surviving TLC members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas recorded a new version of their 1995 classic “Waterfalls” with J-Pop star Namie Amuro (whom they’ve worked with before). Seems like a cool way to celebrate the group’s 20th anniversary, right? Except, they removed Left Eye, and had Amuro do a bastardized version of Left Eye’s iconic verse. We’re not sure why they didn’t just leave Left Eye’s contribution intact and extend the beat to give Amuro a turn on the mic, but considering that T-Boz and Chilli are still wrestling with how to honor and remember Lisa Lopes as they craft their comeback album and probable reunion tour, we’re not gonna be too hard on this decision. But it’s still an odd one.
