Annie‘s hotly-tipped comeback single “Tube Stops And Lonely Hearts” wasn’t the masterpiece that many of us had anticipated, but hark! There’s hope yet for Norwegian’s glacial-pop princess, who’s teaming up with Richard X (more or less foolproof) for an upcoming EP titled The A&R EP (“A” for Annie and “R” for Richard, obviously). The EP drops August 5 and will, apparently, sound like “dance influenced pop.”

And indeed! She’s unveiled the first single, “Back Together,” produced by Richard X and written by Little Boots, which tells you exactly what you need to know about the song: It’s as gorgeous as any of the highlights on her last two albums, up there with “Heartbeat” and “Songs Remind Me Of You” in its excellence, a sparkly disco-pop track that wouldn’t have sounded at all out of place on Boots’ last album NocturnesThe synths are plucky, and the choirs of “ooh”s on the refrain work marvelously. It shimmers and glows like Annie’s best always does.
