Here’s to growing up, sort of: After months of hinting of an “all-out” wedding, Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger were married on July 1 at the Chateau de la Napoule, a restored medieval castle located just outside of Cannes, France. Lavigne wore a black Monique Lhuillier tulle gown and carried a bouquet of black roses (!), as pictured in the latest issue of Hello!.
“I wanted it to be over the top,” Lavigne said. “I’m obsessed with castles and I love French décor and goth… I found this castle in France and we visited it and it was perfect.”
Lavigne and Kroeger invited 110 friends and family members for a ceremony that seems very much inspired by when they first met. Just one month after they started dating in July 2012, the couple spent a whirlwind week in Paris and, as they explained to Chelsea Lately, got matching tattoos. The “Here’s to Never Growing Up” singer calls this the most romantic time of her life, and her new husband seemed to agree.
“It felt like fate was intervening and I was just being given this wake-up call: don’t let this one get away,” Kroeger said.
