J.Cole‘s epic 4th of July performance in Philadelphia could be just the promotion he needs to propel Born Sinner to the top spot on Billboard’s album chart. After being stuck in the runner’s up slot for the past two weeks, the rapper is determined to reach number one and should get a great sales boost from the city of brotherly love.

The Roc Nation MC treated millions of revelers to a slick three song set that began with his 2011 breakout hit “Work Out”. He looked relaxed in a baseball jersey and shorts and soon had the crowd singing along. J. Cole then pulled up a stool and gave an unexpected speech about self-acceptance — mentioning his bushy eyebrows and less than perfect smile. It was a cute segway to “Crooked Smile”, the TLC-featuring slow jam on his new album. He finished with an upbeat rendition of “Power Trip”. Watch the rising rap force above.

Do you think J. Cole killed it? Has his performance inspired you to buy Born Sinner? Let us know in the comments.
