Melodic Chaotic’s “Summer Fling”: Watch The Debut Video By Willow Smith’s New Project

Willow Smith may only be 12, but with each new song (“Sugar & Spice,” “I Am Me”), she somehow manages to transform herself completely. Take her new project with producer-DJ MVSIC Fabrega, called Melodic Chaotic: In the duo’s first-ever song “Summer Fling,” Smith convincingly sings as the one who refuses to commit, no matter how good the chemistry gets.

“It’s just a couple months, but we do it anyway / It’s only for the summer, but we do it anyway / It’s just a couple months, but we do it anyway,” Smith sings, raising a few key questions: At age 12, how could Smith possibly know how a summer fling feels? Again, at age 12, how can she sound so nonchalant about the whole thing? And most importantly, why is she singing in a British accent?

It’s a mellow electropop track that sounds inspired by the best of Dev Hynes-produced “small pop” tracks (Solange‘s “Losing You,” Sky Ferreira‘s “Everything is Embarrassing”), so convincingly executed that Smith assures of one thing: She can do pretty much whatever she wants.

Melodic Chaotic will release a four-track EP later this summer; for now, watch their “Summer Fling” video up top and let us know what you think in the comments.
