Diplo Warned Beyonce “Run The World” Sounded Old, Reveals Their New Collab Has Been “Scrapped”

Diplo had some interesting things to say about superstar client Beyonce in an interview published in UK newspaper The Sun today (July 12). The influential and occasionally controversial producer claims he told Third Ward Trill that her 2011 single “Run The World (Girls)” sounded less than fresh but she failed to heed his warning. “When Beyonce sampled [Major Lazer‘s] “Pon De Floor” it was already in the clubs two years earlier and I told her that,” the hitmaker recalls. “She said to me ‘No, but do people know this shit?’ So I was like ‘fine go ahead’. I don’t care.”

The lukewarm chart performance of that collaboration didn’t stop Mrs. Carter from calling on Diplo for her new disc. Unfortunately, we may never hear what they came up with. “I just did two songs for her new album,” the “Bubble Butt” maestro reveals. “I think she scrapped the record,” he continues. “The record was supposed to be done and they have been hitting me up for brand new ideas.” However, the loose-lipped producer then jumped on Twitter to clarify the situation, saying he was misquoted. See his tweet and revelations about working on Katy Perry‘s new album after the jump.

So they worked on a song, which was scrapped? Hardly the end of the world. Maybe he’ll have more luck with his new client. “I just did some stuff with Katy Perry, I don’t know if it will come out,” Diplo told The Sun. “She’s so confident and has a great voice. I always worry about making the pop tracks too weird, but then if people want a Diplo record they must know I’m going to be fucking weird.” How do you feel about the twerk-pioneer‘s revelations?
