Beyonce Holds Moment Of Silence For Trayvon Martin At Mrs. Carter Show Concert

Beyonce began to conclude her Mrs. Carter Show concert in Nashville, Tennessee’s Bridgestone Arena on Saturday (July 13) with a small tribute. “I’d like to have a moment of silence for Trayvon,” she said, beginning her concert just 30 minutes after George Zimmerman was found not guilty in the 2012 death of Trayvon Martin.

Beyonce then segued into the chorus of Dolly Parton‘s “I Will Always Love You,” as popularized by Whitney Houston, before cavernous drums kicked off a live rendition of I Am… Sasha Fierce‘s “Halo.” As fans can testify, Beyonce has performed this exact combination of songs live before.

However, as other members of the pop and hip-hop communities began to show outrage over the verdict — Young Jeezy released a song, “It’s a Cold World,” while Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus took to Twitter to show their support — this introduction to the Mrs. Carter Show amounted to a fitting tribute.

Below, watch Beyonce sing “I Will Always Love You” in Nashville and check out Young Jeezy’s “It’s a Cold World.”
