You may have previously known Dawn Richard as a member of Danity Kane or Diddy Dirty Money, but the R&B songstress is a solo act in her own right. After dropping Goldenheart, the “first truly exceptional release of the year,” back in January, Richard is back with the lead single “Meteors” off her upcoming third studio album. After the rave reviews of Richard’s last album, expectations are high for the upcoming Blackheart album — but if the progressive R&B track is any indication, fans have nothing to fear.
“Meteors” marks something of a sonic departure for Richard, as the ’80s dance sounds of Goldenheart give way to a harder-hitting, electronic vibe. “Your love is coming down like meteors,” her voice echoes before launching into a pulsing space-age backbeat.
Richard’s upcoming album Blackheart is the second installment in the GoldenHeart trilogy, to be followed by Redemptionheart.
The album is due on October 7; fans can help contribute to the cause by donating to back the project at the singer’s Kickstarter page.
