Up top is the official artwork for “Applause,” the lead single from Lady Gaga‘s forthcoming album ARTPOP (out November 11). Women’s Wear Daily premiered the image, along with an interview in which Gaga revealed some details about the highly anticipated song. For one thing, she co-wrote it with DJ White Shadow. “I’ll tell you that it is very fun,” Gaga said. “And that it’s full of happiness, because what I’m saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me.”

The cover photo is the work of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, who did Gaga’s recent nude V Magazine shoot and who helmed the “Applause” video, which was shot last week in L.A. If you think the image resembles David Bowie‘s “Ashes To Ashes” and Scary Monsters covers, we’re guessing that was intentional. Bowie is a huge inspiration for Mother Monster, and this isn’t her first time referencing his makeup: when she first emerged in the “Just Dance” era, the singer often had a lightning bolt painted on her face, which was a callback to Bowie’s Aladdin Sane cover.

Earlier Sunday (July 28), Gaga also announced that the ARTPOP album and app would be available for pre-order on August 19, the same date “Applause” will be available for purchase. Check out Gaga’s tweets below, as well as another new ARTPOP promo pic.
