Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus are BFFs, and once you get past the age difference (Brit’s 31, Miley’s 20), it makes sense. Both came from Disney’s child labor camps, both made pop music as teens, both made the conscious choice to break with their “good girl” images, both went through a short-hair phase. But it’s deeper than their parallel career arcs. Miley chatted with the Huffington Post and revealed a few details about their relationship and how it coalesced around their unique relationship with the spotlight.
“Everyone goes through a time in their life where they don’t want their picture taken everyday. [Britney] just never had that time where she could say ‘I’m going through something right now and need to shut down,’” Miley said. “I also don’t have that, so it’s good to have that one person in my life who gets it.”
Miley didn’t exactly say that Brit is a role model for her; she made it sound more like Spears is a wise sage who can help Miley navigate the path. “I just think it’s never blaming you or making you feel like ‘you’ve got all this going for you,’ it’s like she knows,” Miley explained. “Sometimes life just steps in the middle of your career the way life always does for anyone — it’s just ours is a little more 24/7.”
In conclusion: Britney shaved her head so Miley didn’t have to.
