Labrinth Performs “Beneath Your Beautiful” Acoustic: Watch
Ah, Labrinth. He’s a huge star in his native UK, a protege of Simon Cowell and producer for artists like Rihanna and Ellie Goulding who’s notched five Top 10 singles in the last three years. But even if you don’t know his name yet, there’s a good chance you know the English singer-songwriter’s most recent track — “Beneath Your Beautiful,” an elegant ballad featuring Emeli Sande, which snagged Lab his first solo #1 single and a Brit nomination. Now, the song is headed overseas — after going Top 10 in 11 countries worldwide, “Beautiful” has just cracked the Top 40 on U.S. mainstream radio.
When Labrinth stopped by Idolator studios, he performed an aching rendition of the song that took its already spare production and just made it sparer and even more gorgeous. It’s just him and a guitar, but as it turns out, that’s all he needs.
