Labrinth Performs “Earthquake” Acoustic: Watch

Labrinth already knocked my socks off with his stripped-down, striking rendition of his current chart-vaulting ballad “Beneath Your Beautiful,” but a few years ago, he snagged my full attention with a song called “Earthquake” that’s about as monstrous a grimy club-pop banger as anyone could desire — and, unsurprisingly, it became a massive smash in his native UK.

What is surprising is how when the singers topped by Idolator studios in New York City a few weeks ago for an interview and performance, he was able to reduce that song to just one guitar, turning it into something much more emotional, even haunting. To listen to the original is to hear a lot of savvy, zippy production and crunchy hooks, but as a one-man show with an acoustic guitar, Lab turns it into something even rarer.

Watch up top.
