Originally recorded by Leona Lewis, “Burn” emerged without warning. As one of her most mainstream efforts yet, the song risked blindsiding fans of Halcyon, an LP that actually deviated from the ethereal yet straightforward pop formula of Goulding’s debut album Lights.
At Lollapalooza though, the crowd raised their hands during the hook and even clapped during the buildup without any prompting. Their responses seemed to show that, despite her past struggles, Goulding’s more capable than ever of captivating a U.S. mainstream audience.
