It’s a whole new Selegend in the pages of i-D, where Selena Gomez has stripped down and butched up in an artistic new shoot. Shot on the streets of London aside two androgynous models, the starlet ditched her typically prim aesthetic for something messier, wearing a Marni t-shirt, Denham jeans and a men’s John Varvatos topcoat. Even in Spring Breakers, she still read like a good girl gone bad; here, her expression is sheer apathy.
On the cover, she’s a little sweeter, biting her lip playfully with a mess of tangled hair.
As for the cover story, her interview is unsurprisingly slight (it is, ultimately, all about the look). With respect to the cover shoot, she explained: “It’s so easy to wear incredible, beautiful dresses and look super glamorous, because you have the power of Photoshop, but a shoot that’s really stripped-down and raw is really fun to do. I was being rained on, it was freezing, I was covered in a giant sweater and my hair was all over the place. I got to just be in that moment and feel like I was there.”
And regarding her Stars Dance world tour, the chanteuse says that she’s doubled down this time around: “It’s been crazy,” Selena admits. “I wanted it to be bigger and better than the last tour, so the stage and the presentation are gonna be really fun.”
