Calvin Harris, Alesso & Hurts’ Theo Hutchcraft Team Up For “ID (Wild Ones)”: Listen

EDM kings Calvin Harris and Alesso have teamed up with Hurts frontman Theo Hutchcraft on a new song, and it’s — well — it’s very EDM, isn’t it? Yes. That’s the word. Very EDM. Depressingly so.

The track was debuted during Alesso’s set in Ibiza on Friday night and then broadcast on Radio 1; not unlike Avicii’s monster Adam Lambert collaboration (also titled “ID,” weirdly), it’s an absolute club smash with a potent, distinctive vocal from Hutchcraft. But while Avicii’s song feels a little bit more differentiated — and there’s a few huge moments — “ID (Wild Ones)” feels by-the-numbers and uninspired. Frankly, it’s dance music at its most predictable.

As part of Hurts, Hutchcraft had one of the most original visions in pop, and Alesso and Harris are both capable of innovation, but here they miss the mark. Better luck next time, eh?
