Usher has released a statement thanking the two men who saved his five-year-old son from drowning on Monday (August 5). “I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering,” the singer wrote. “I’d especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews. They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.” (By the way, now Crews’ mother wants Usher to perform at the guy’s wedding next week.)

Usher Raymond V on Monday nearly drowned in his father’s pool after he tried to retrieve a toy and his arm got stuck in the pool drain. Usher’s aunt and a member of his staff were unable to free the boy, but Crews and Stachurski rushed to the scene after hearing screams and saved him. Shortly after the incident, Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster Raymond called a hearing requesting temporary custody of their two children, Usher V and Naivyd Ely.

I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family’s well-being. I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock. I’d especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews. They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.”
