Disses: Britney Spears

The world was in shock when Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears called off their relationship back in 2002, after being together for three years. (Okay, maybe not the entire world, but it was still a huge moment in pop history!). Rumor has it that Britney was cheating on the singer with her choreographer, Wade Robson, and JT was fed up.

Thus, enter Timbaland with a menacing beat that gave Timberlake the platform to speak his mind — which in turn solidified Timberlake as a solo star. “Cry Me A River” is cleverly subtle, slight vindictive and quite genius. Aside from its sneaky lyrical disses (“You should’ve picked honesty, then you may not have blown it”), the track has become one of JT’s strongest songs in his catalogue.
