Katy Perry Will Close The MTV VMAs Below The Brooklyn Bridge

On August 24, Katy Perry referenced the Beastie Boys when she spoke of the MTV Video Music Awards. (Pardon the all-caps.) “NO SLEEP TILL BROOKLYN!!! SEE YOU TOMORROW, I’LL BE CLOSING IT DOWN FROM A SECRET LOCATION IN BROOKLYN. #VMAS,” she said on Twitter. That secret location? Underneath the Brooklyn Bridge.

While Us Weekly reports that Perry first wanted to perform on the Brooklyn Bridge — “the city wouldn’t give her the permit,” a source said — Brooklyn Paper reports that her stage is set up at the Empire Fulton Ferry nearby Brooklyn Bridge Park, two miles west of the VMAs venue Barclays Center. The choice of location fits right into MTV’s New York-centric promo campaign, featuring the Beastie Boys anthem and Perry at the sewers.
