Fergie Does Her Best 2 Chainz Impression In 2 Chainz’ “Netflix”: Listen
In “No Lie,” 2 Chainz boasted that his life should be on Cinemax (“Movie, bought my boo bigger tits and a bigger ass”). In his new song, he updates his standards like the 2013 Emmys — to “Netflix.”
Still, the Atlanta rapper did title his sophomore LP Based on a T.R.U. Story II: Me Time. So as the title hints, “Netflix” plays out like a sequel: 2 Chainz still wants to make a sex tape, only this time Fergie gets involved, mimicking the rapper’s flow to reference his “Birthday Song” at the start (“When I die, bury me inside the liquor store”).
Plus, while 2 Chainz once bragged of wearing Polo and True Religion, “Netflix” envisions the rapper in a Versace outfit. (Perhaps it involves the pants that he and Grimes wore at the MTV Video Music Awards — who knows!) Even the production, with its staccato electric organ and crunchy guitar, feels like a slightly more involved version of Atlanta’s current mixtape instrumentals.
For 2 Chainz, “Netflix” is and isn’t new, much like an upgrade. Listen after the jump.
