Kendrick Lamar stopped by Chelsea Lately, for some reason, and talked about that infamous Miley Cyrus performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs (a performance which he had a small role in, though he was out of the range of Miley’s giant crotch-tickling foam finger so we keep forgetting that point). “It was shocking, very shocking,” he told host Chelsea Handler. “It didn’t get in the way of what I was doing, but I definitely was interested.”

K-Dot also talked about his “Control” verse, which sparked a Miley-level debate in the hip-hop world. “A lot of cats I named, they’re actually good friends of mine. I basically wanted to show that I’m competitive,” Lamar said. “That keeps the level of hip-hop alive as far as the culture.” He explained it in terms of basketball, where LeBron James may be friendly with opposing players in real life, but goes for blood on the court.
